Capital Connections

A.J. Higgins has just posted what he says is his first column in three years at the Capitol Connection Facebook page.

Higgins takes a look at the well-funded leadership PACs run by House and Senate leadership candidates, most of whom are running for their own seats as clean elections candidates.

There's also this great tidbit:

"So when are you guys going to start covering the governor’s race?"

The lobbyist asking me the question on the fourth floor of the State House didn’t really want to know. That was probably just his way of suggesting that he would have preferred that I was covering the governor’s race instead of a hearing on the bill he opposed that would prohibit lifetime and annual payment caps on health insurance.

Great column by AJ. My favorite quote in the article:
“When someone goes out of their way to kind of tout themselves as a clean election candidates and that they don’t take any corporate money or any special interest money and they’re not beholding to anyone -- but then they do solicit for a leadership PAC, then I think that’s problematic,” Brewer said.

Is Diamond suggesting he is beholded?

If I am reading this correctly Sen. Diamond is suggesting that if you accept corporate money you by default become beholden to special interest. As the clear fund raising leader of those mentioned doesn't that make him the best senator president money can buy?

I mean the guy is running as a Democrat for Senate President and he takes a $25,000 bribe from a machine gun manufacturer?!?! That's not exactly in line with core Democratic Values.
